FAQ
Q. I’m coming from out of town. Are there good hotels nearby?
A. Yes. We recommend these nearby hotels: Hyatt Place Houston/Sugar Land, 16730 Creekbend Dr, Sugar Land, TX 77478, the Courtyard By Mariott Houston/Sugar Land Lake Pointe, 16740 Creekbend Dr, Sugar Land, TX 77478, and the Sugar Land Mariott Town Square, , located in Sugar Land Town Square, a nice lively city center area with convenient shopping and dining all right outside the door of the hotel.

Q. I have taken Stages One thru Three. How is Stage Four different and why should I take it?
A. As a life-long learner, it is strongly recommended to continue Suzuki training and deepen your understanding of the philosophy and curriculum. In Stage Three, we will analyze different aspects of the Baby/Toddler class curriculum and goals in more depth including further study of new “layers”, literacy and the value of reading aloud, teacher observation skills, new research and its effect on early childhood education, and review teacher participant’s collection of SECE resources.

Q. I have taken Stages One thru Three, but I am not currently teaching an SECE class. Can I take Stage Four?
A. Possibly, if you have met the 9 months of time/teaching requirement between stages of training. Please contact us. This question must be answered on an individual basis by the teacher trainer.

Q. I just took Stage Three last month. Can I take Stage Four now?
A. No. It is required that you wait at least 9 months between stages of training and be actively teaching a class. If you have extenuating circumstances, please contact us. Exceptions are handled on an individual basis by the teacher trainer.

Q. I have already read Nurtured by Love, Ability Development from Age Zero, and the Lullabies, Action Songs and Rhymes booklet. Do I need to read them again?
A. Everyone learns by repetition. It is expected that you will re-read these materials before class. Please also bring them with you to class for a reference.

Q. I have a baby/toddler between 0 and 4. Can they participate in the demo classes?
A. Yes. We welcome your child in the class. Contact us with your child’s name and age and we will let you know if there is available space in the baby/toddler classes. Click here for the baby/toddler registration form.

Q. What should I wear?
A. The demonstration classes are active. Wear something comfortable for moving, dancing and sitting on the floor. Be prepared to remove your shoes during class.

Q. What if I can’t sit on the floor because of an injury?
A. No problem. You may sit on a chair for all the floor activities.

Q. What will we be studying in the class?
A. The Stage Four class focuses on the following:

  • Teacher participants will discuss at-home activities that encourage more parent/child interaction.
  • Further investigation of current and applicable research as it applies to prenatal stimulation and the SECE baby/toddler classes.
  • Teacher participants will analyze the SECE curriculum in multiple ways.
  • further study of new “layers” to address the different ages and developmental stages of the children.
  • Literacy and the value of reading around to children from birth will be discussed.
  • Further study of teacher observation and the development of intuition.
  • Review of teacher participant’s collection of SECE resources.
  • There will be written assignments required during this week.
  • Each teacher will hand in an observation assignment page each day.
  • Each teacher participant has an opportunity to lead an activity and assist in the daily class during the training week.
  • Teacher participants will also assist in the planning of and delivery of a parent session or a prenatal music stimulation information session.
  • A brief individual consultation will be scheduled for each teacher participant during the training period.
  • Upon completion of this Stage of training teacher participants are encouraged to pursue Stage 4 and consider an SECE Practicum course. It is also possible to revisit earlier stages of training.

Q. Should I bring my lunch?
A. You may bring a sack lunch or you may go out to lunch at a nearby restaurant. There will be a 90 minute (1.5 hour) break for lunch.
