SECE Teachers, Covid-19 has changed the way we all interact with each other, especially in the SECE Class environment. This 2-day, 10-hour course will take you through the ins and outs, ups and downs of transitioning your SECE classes to an online environment. This interactive course will include 2 live demonstration classes on Zoom in addition to 2 hours of video observation, and online lecture and discussion. There will also be the opportunity to receive written feedback if participants would like to turn in their optional written assignments and observations during the course.

Live class observation 9:30-10:30am 11/11 and 11/18.
2 hours online observation to be done at the participant’s convenience, prior to the end of the course.

Pre-requisites
Current Active SAA Membership
Successful completion of SECE Stage One training.
This course assumes participants have had in-person SECE Stage One training and prior experience in teaching the baby/toddler classes in-person.

Policies
All fees are non-refundable (unless the course is full before your application is received). Absences cannot be credited or refunded.
Attendance for the entire 10 hours of class and observation time and payment of the SAA registration fee is required for SAA course registration.
Please refrain from taking photos, audio recordings, video, and/or screenshots during the baby/toddler classes. Photos/audio/video/screenshots during the teacher training class is only allowed for your own personal study use. No photos/audio/video/screenshots may be posted online or used in print without written permission from Danette Warren Schuh.

FAQ:

Q. I have not taken SECE Stage One yet. Will this course teach me how to teach SECE?
A. No. this course only addresses the aspects of teaching SECE on Zoom or similar online platforms. SECE Stage One training is required as a pre-requisite to this course.

Q. Can I take SECE Stage One online?
A. Not at this time. All SECE Stage 1 through 5 training is currently on hold while the SECE Curriculum Revisions Committee is updating the curriculum. When SECE Stage 1 through 5 training resumes, all information on training will be available on the SAA website.

Q. I have a baby/toddler between 0 and 4. Can we participate in the online SECE classes?
A. Yes. We welcome you and your child in the class. Contact us with your child’s name and age and we will let you know if there is available space in the baby/toddler classes. Click here for more information about Dolce Babies baby/toddler classes with Dolce Music Academy.

Q. What is the optional additional $15 fee for?
A. The additional $15 fee is the amount required to register the course with the Suzuki Association of the Americas. As an SAA member, you have an online ‘resume’ which you can view when you log into your account on the SAA website. It lists all the courses that you have ‘registered’ with the SAA.

Q. What will we be studying in the class?
A. This 10-hour enrichment class focuses on the following:

  • Setting up your teaching space for online teaching
  • Navigating Zoom before, during, and after the class
  • The at-home environment for parents, babies and toddlers
  • Parent education online
  • Journaling/written observations online
  • Incorporating “layers” online
  • There will be two live online class observation hours
  • There will be two hours of video observation to be done at the participant’s convenience, before the 2nd day of the course
  • Participants are encouraged to hand in a written observation for each class observed. Observations that are turned in will receive written feedback from the trainer.
  • Participants are encouraged to hand in a written assignment during the course. Assignments that are turned in will receive written feedback from the trainer.
  • Each teacher participant will have the opportunity to participate in online discussion and may have the opportunity to lead the course participants in a sample activity, time permitting
  • Time for participant Q&A will be included

Q. Will there be breaks?
A. Yes. There is a one-hour lunch break each day of the course. Other short “stand-and-stretch” breaks will be taken as needed during the course.

Q. Do I need any special set up to take this course?
A. No special equipment is required. It is recommended that you set up a free account with Zoom. You will get best results if you are able to sign up for a paid account with Zoom to take advantage of the additional features.
An ethernet connection (wired, not wireless) to your desktop or laptop computer will give you the best online connection.
It is possible to participate on your phone or ipad/tablet, but you will have the best results using a larger screen.
An external microphone is not required, but it will definitely enhance your sound online.
Please prepare your physical location for an optimal, quiet, focused learning environment so that you receive the maximum benefit from this course.
