Teachers, find out just how early learning begins! This course will prepare you to teach the Suzuki Early Childhood Education classes for babies and toddlers ages 0-4 and their parents. This interactive course will include 5 live demonstration classes in addition to lecture and discussion. All course hours and demonstration classes will be held in-person/face-to-face in Sugar Land, Texas (Houston area). All participants will have the opportunity to lead an activity in class and receive personal feedback as the week progresses. There will be required written assignments and observations during the week.

Course fee: $600.00 on or before March 1, 2022 OR $650.00 after March 1, 2022

SAA Registration fee: $15.00 (required to register the course with the SAA)
Books and materials: your course manual is included in your course fee. The curriculum CD and Booklet and books for pre-requisite reading are available for purchase if you do not already own them. Contact us for details.

Pre-requisites
Current Active SAA Membership
Completion of the SAA Every Child Can (ECC) course
Participants must be able to sing in tune and keep a steady beat
Participants must have studied the songs and rhymes of the SECE curriculum CD and be prepared to perform the songs and rhymes in class during the SECE training
Participants must have read or re-read Nurtured by Love, Ability Development from Age Zero and the Lullabies, Action Songs and Rhymes Booklet

Policies
All fees are non-refundable (unless the course is full before your application is received). Absences cannot be credited or refunded.
Returned check fee or credit card chargeback fee is $35.00.
Attendance for the entire 30 hours of class time and payment of the SAA registration fee is required for SAA course registration.
Please refrain from taking photos or video during the baby/toddler classes. Photos and video during the teacher training class are only allowed for your own personal study use. No photos/video may be posted online or used in print without written permission from Danette Warren.

Q. I’m coming from out of town. Are there good hotels nearby?
A. Yes. These hotels are very close by, Hyatt Place Houston/Sugar Land, 16730 Creekbend Dr, Sugar Land, TX 77478, the Courtyard By Mariott Houston/Sugar Land Lake Pointe, 16740 Creekbend Dr, Sugar Land, TX 77478 (about 2 miles from the class location) and the Sugar Land Mariott Town Square, approx. 1 mile from the class location), located in Sugar Land Town Square, a nice lively city center area with convenient shopping and dining all within a few blocks.

Q. Can I attend virtually/online?
A. Unfortunately, no. All course hours and demonstration classes will be held face-to-face/in-person at our physical location in Sugar Land, Texas (Houston area).

Q. What about Covid-19?
A. We will be taking many precautions for Covid-19. Everyone’s health and safety are of primary concern. Since Covid conditions change frequently, we are constantly considering the current situation and updating policies accordingly. Click here to read our current Covid policies.

Q. I have heard that the SECE curriculum was recently revised. Will we be learning the new version?
A. Yes, the most recent revisions to the SECE curriculum will be covered in class.

Q. If the recordings are available on iTunes do I have to purchase the CD?
A. No. If you purchase the Lullabies, Action Songs and Rhymes on iTunes (or other online source), be sure to purchase BOTH volumes, Week 1 and Week 2 curriculum. If you purchase them online, you will still need to purchase the printed companion booklet. That is available directly from me or at www.suzukiece.com.

Q. Is it necessary to memorize all the action songs and rhymes on the class curriculum CD before coming to class?
A. It is strongly recommended to memorize the newest version of the curriculum. You will have difficulty leading activities in the demonstration classes if you do not know the literature. An updated list will be provided when you have registered for the course.

Q. I already own and have read Nurtured by Love and Ability Development from Age Zero. Do I need to purchase them again?
A. No, you do not need to purchase them again, but everyone learns by repetition. It is expected that you will re-read these materials before class. Please also bring them with you to class for a reference.

Q. I have a baby/toddler between 0 and 4. Can they participate in the demo classes?
A. Yes. We welcome your child in the class. Contact us with your child’s name and age and we will let you know if there is available space in the baby/toddler classes. Click here for the baby/toddler class application form.

Q. What should I wear?
A. The demonstration classes are active. Wear something comfortable for moving, dancing and sitting on the floor. Be prepared to remove your shoes during class.

Q. What if I can’t sit on the floor because of an injury?
A. No problem. You may sit on a chair for all the floor activities.

Q. What will we be studying in the class?
A. The Stage One class emphasizes the development of a child from birth through age three.

  • Discussion of the seven SECE concepts and their importance in the weekly SECE classes.
  • The importance of the Suzuki approach to early education.
  • The prenatal and post-natal learning environment
  • The baby/toddler class curriculum (the most current revised version)
  • The equipment used in class
  • The team teaching approach
  • The sequence of the Baby/toddler class curriculum
  • Teaching strategies
  • Musical integrity
  • A brief introduction to prenatal music stimulation
  • Daily class assignments are given each teacher participant.
  • Each participant will have an opportunity to lead an activity in the daily baby/toddler class during the training week.
  • A brief individual consultation will be scheduled for each teacher participant during the training period.

Q. Should I bring my lunch?
A. You may bring a sack lunch or you may go out to lunch at a nearby restaurant. There are a variety of restaurants nearby and First Colony Mall is also very close by. There will be a 90 minute (1.5 hour) break for lunch.
